The Best $5 You Can Spend
Very early on in your entrepreneurial journey something amazing happens, you realize that it would be cheaper and easier to have someone do that for you.
The first one that jumped out at me was mowing my yard. I hate mowing my yard in the dead of summer when it 4000 degrees outside. My time became more valuable as my business started to pick up and it didn’t make sense for me to be taking the time to be outside mowing and edging when I can be doing something (anything) else.
But as you start your business there are going to be lots of little tasks that can easily turn into hours if not days of struggle if something gets away from you. You have to be careful getting trapped in the busy but not productive phase of business.
Let me give you an example: YouTube Channel Banners.
Now for the uninitiated, this is the artwork that sits on the top of your YouTube channel page. There are very specific dimensions and spacing challenges that go into making one of these. Not to mention it is essentially your business card online. These are undervalued real estate for a new business owner.
In my earlier days, I fell into the trap. I tried to create my own on the free software options. I didn’t like the result so I purchased software to help. That came with its own learning curve and the result was mediocre. I am embarrassed looking back at how much time and effort I spent although I do realize that it is important.
This is not wrong but you can make your life MUCH MUCH easier!
Let me introduce you to Fiverr.com, The best $5.00 you can spend on your business!
Fiverr is an online marketplace of task-based services that you can leverage for your business. You can find help with logo design, graphics, banners, and anything else. You can find people to call your brother and breath into the phone if you want. These services start at $5.00 and go up based on the task and the skill level of the person.
For the Green Flame YouTube page, I was able to find a graphic designer that was already offering the task I needed to be done, look at their past work, and purchase the task for $15.00 with work to be completed the next day.
I can honestly tell you that I will have been still working on that design tomorrow if I did it myself and I will not be happy with it. This way I can continue writing, helping, and working without the timesuck of being busy just to be busy.
This is about leverage. This is also about being able to take a step back and ask what else could I be outsourcing. To me, If I look at a task and don’t know where to start or what my immediate next step would be, I start looking for someone to help me with it.
Give yourself permission to have a specialist tackle that for you and save yourself a lot of time and stress.
